Cesar's Rules: Exercise, Discipline, and then Affection

I can't stress it enough.  Exercise is the number one reason why some people have a really "good" dog vs. other people having a really "bad" dog.

If you want to know why your dog is tearing everything up in sight or running into the neighbor's yard, or digging to much, or just getting into trouble...the number one reason is....YOUR DOG IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH EXERCISE .

I understand it's hot this time of year and some days you would rather not have to go, but this is usually when you and your dog need it the most.  Just like not going anywhere or getting out can make you crazy, your dog is the same way.  Your dog wants to get out.  He/She wants to interact with other people, other dogs.  She/He gets depressed and bored just staying at home.  They want to get out and go for a walk, a jog, or preferrably a run.  They love smelling different air, taking in new smells, and meeting new people, or dogs.

While you're out, use this time to intergrade Discipline into the walking/running route.  Discipline is the second reason why you have a "good" or "bad" dog.  Doing a couple commands throughout your walking/running time is extremely beneficial.  Something as simple as having your dog do a few push ups.  Yes push ups.  Start with "SIT" and then go to "DOWN".  Then go back to "SIT" and then to "DOWN".  Your dog will have fun with the game and it really shows them you care.  Help them out the 1st few times, then get it to be part of the routine.  They will really enjoy it.

Last but not least Affection.  After the exercise and discipline you can praise your dog for doing a great job!  Then give the dog a nice belly rub.  Suddenly you have a "good" dog!  Good Dog!!!

PS.  It also helps this time of year to have a small pool for your dog to cool off in.  I recommend those small baby pools.  My dogs love it.
